SANTA ROSA, Calif. – As part of the multi-agency response to the recent fires in Northern California, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has completed asbestos removals at 93 properties in Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino counties.
EPA has also completed household hazardous waste (HHW) removals at 6,527 properties in Sonoma and Napa counties. Household hazardous waste includes leftover household products that can catch fire, react, or explode under certain circumstances, or that are corrosive or toxic. Products such as paints, cleaners, solvents, oils, batteries, herbicides and pesticides can contain hazardous ingredients and require special handling and disposal.
- Residents who need to contact EPA regarding household hazardous waste can call: (415) 793-8794, seven days a week from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- US Army Corps’ of Engineers has also established a debris removal hotline: (877) 875-7681 seven days a week from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Residents who suspect EPA impersonators are contacting them are encouraged to contact the agency’s Inspector General hotline: (888) 546-8740. This number is for reporting potential fraud only. EPA does not ask for personal financial information such as Social Security numbers or bank account numbers and is only contacting people regarding household hazardous waste collection.
